  • My vacation with my family to Alaska just finished.  Tons of great experiences and good times with the family.  Praise God!

Best experience… riding in a helicopter to a glacier covered in snow where there is a “dogtown” of 270 sled dogs with their own tiny individual doghouses and their trainers also there living in tents.  I got to ride for two miles on a dogsled behind a team of dogs with their trainer.  Crazy experience!  Those dogs were awesome.

Nacho Libre is my hero.  Yay for wrestling for the orphans!  Naaaaaaaachooooooo!!!  I thought of my kids while watching the movie.  My little kids with their accent yell my name (JM)… “Jae-ee Aem!!!”

I’ll post some pics in a few days.  I’m actually still in the airport in Vancouver waiting for my flight.  I’m looking forward to getting back to Korea.  God bless!

  • For the next 13 days I will be on vacation.  I am going to Alaska to meet my family for a cruise from Anchorage down to Vancouver.  And yes, I can’t wait to eat a ton of American food.  And see my family too, of course.

The world cup game yesterday was mad good!  A bunch of the older kids, a few staff, and I went to Olympic stadium for a concert and after it they broadcasted the game there.  For my fobby friends, the concert included… Lee Soo Young, Jun In Kwon, Kim Kun Mo, and Crying Nut.  In Kwon sounded like he had something in his throat (he hurt my ears).  Crying Nut’s music sounded like it belonged on a Naruto intro; I enjoyed them the most.  As for the game, it was the first soccer game I’ve ever really gotten into, it was a lot of fun!  They’ve been showing replays NONSTOP on the news of Korea scoring their two goals.  Yes, people are happy here.

Alright, I’ll be back in 2 weeks, keep strong in the Lord brothers and sisters!  And don’t forget…

  • When I first came to the orphanage I showed the kids the pictures on my computer.  The younger boys went crazy when they saw this picture…

“Jinjja spiderman (is that really spiderman)?”  Chingooeeaeyo (Is he your friend)?  I told them he is my friend and is in America.

Well, my friend was able to come to Korea this past month and he visited last Wednesday night to both see me and to surprise the kids.  I had been looking forward to it for a while.  I went to the boys dorms and told the younger boys to come outside.  They were in their pajamas and a bit confused, but they came out.  When they saw Spiderman they jumped back at first in shock, but then they started shouting “Spiderman!  Spiderman!” and pointing and laughing.  They were so happy!  Spidey did a handstand, picked up some kids, and even did a “spidey crawl” that delighted the kids.  It was a fun evening.

In this pic Sung Hyun tried to take off Robert’s mask in curiousity… don’t worry, he failed… Spidey still has his secret identity…

We visited some of the high school boys too.  As soon as we entered and they saw him, In Chul yelled in English, “I like Harry Potter!!!”  Goofball.  =)

The man behind the mask… Robert.    So much for a secret identity, sorry bro!

This past week two more kids joined the home.  They are 4 year old twins, brother and sister.  Wee Suck is on the left, Ah Yoon is on the right.  Joon Hyuk, another one of our boys, is acting goofy in the middle.  A dorm mother Mimi is behind Ah Yoon.

  • DONUT MINISTRY

In the past almost every time I have fasted someone has offered me food that I would normally never be offered.  I remember doing a three day fast at home and waking up the first day to the smell of the best blueberry muffins ever.  My younger sister had decided to try cooking them for the first time and had done an awesome job, and so of course she offered me a bunch.  I had to laugh.  Stuff like that happens often for me, I’ve always felt it as a signal that I’m doing something right.  The longer/more important the fasts, the more the food offered.

When I first came to Korea I fasted regularly, and  nearly every time I fasted someone would bring me food.  At one point, three consecutive weeks in a row I was brought Dunkin Donuts by different people on a day of fasting, no one ever knowing I was fasting.  I almost began to count on it.  It was great to break my fasts with some donuts.

Well, I stopped fasting for a while because of my health, its a bit harder for me out here.  Today was my first time fasting in a few months, and I only fasted today because a friend on a missions trip requested it.  I was tired early this evening, and while laying down in my apartment I asked God with a smile on my face, “Where are the donuts?  Is this fast not blessed since I haven’t been given any?”

Later in the evening my friend Robert came to visit me… and wouldn’t you know it, in his hand was a box of Dunkin Donuts, a treat just for me.

God is in the details.  He is a beautiful God.  Such an amazing God that He can even reveal He cares through some fatty pastries.  He is with you by your side all the time.  He makes me smile.

I’ve been here 5 months now!  I miss you friends from back home… I plan to visit Virginia in October for a few weeks.  Also, if you like any of the music I put on here, go to www.goldusa.com and look up the artist’s names.  I also suggest you buy all of the Soul Survivor albums (1996 – 2005), those cds are some of my favorite worship albums.  Take care everybody!
