  • INDONESIA STORY 4 (please do read through these, be encouraged both in your faith and in intercession for Indonesia)

On the island of Papua there are many mountains and jungles and indigenous tribes.  Because of the rugged terrain, even today new tribes are being discovered by helicopter or airplane.  Years ago, another tribe was discovered.  So, an Indonesian pastor along with a female missionary set out by helicopter to meet this group.

The helicopter dropped them down in a field and then took off again.  As they walked towards the known location of the tribal village, the tribal people came out to meet them.  The tribal people came towards them both with weapons and with food.  They gave the pastor and the female missionary a lot of food to eat.  Then each tribal member proceeded to touch the pastor or the female missionary on certain parts of their body.  The pastor recognized what was happening.  Whatever part the tribal member touched, that was the part they were going to eat.  The feast was meant to fill them up before they die.  The tribe, like some other tribes on the island of Papua, was a group of cannibals.

As tribal members proceeded to touch parts of his arms and legs, the pastor closed his eyes and prayed.  He remembers he said, “Dear God, I love you.  I am willing to die for you.  But if it is not our time, if you still want to use us, please let us escape.”  Then, as the tribal members were grasping his shoulders and chest, the pastor shook back his shoulders in an attempt to get their hands off of them.  Then all the people ran away!  Something strange seemed to happen that scared them off.  The helicopter returned and he and the woman ran to it and left the place.  They knew it was a miracle they had not been killed.

As days passed, the people they had visited began pressing on the pastor’s heart.  He knew he needed to return.  He first approached the female missionary, but she said in no way would she return to that place.  The pastor eventually found one other man to go with them.  And so for a second time he was taken by helicopter to the field outside the village.

After they landed, the tribal people once again came towards him with their weapons.  But as they got very close, they broke their spears and bows and arrows!  They then told the pastor that if any person comes to their village and is able to escape with their life, then that person is someone greater than them, someone worthy of respect.  They had broken their weapons as a sign of peace.  They then welcomed the pastor and his friend into the village.  There the pastor shared the Gospel with them and led them to Christ.

Here is a picture of that pastor… he had actually just shared that story with us through Pastor Tandi’s interpretation.

  • INDONESIA STORY 3 (edited this a little, after receiving more clarification from Pastor Tandi)

One of Pastor Tandi’s Bible college students became upset with him because Pastor Tandi had to discipline him.  Nearly all of these Bible college students at the small school in Manokwari are from different tribes throughout the island of Papua.  This man was very angry for being disciplined.  At night he brought a small angry mob with him to Pastor Tandi’s house.  They were outside yelling and making commotion.  Pastor Tandi invited the man inside along with some of the men with him.  Pastor Tandi then noticed that one of the men beside his college student was a known killer in the community.  Pastor Tandi’s best English word to describe him is, “assassin,” or killer for hire.  The man is somewhat of a hermit that the authorities had not been able to arrest and he is greatly feared in the community.  Pastor Tandi had all the men sit down to talk.  After only sitting for a few moments, the known killer jumped up from his seat and ran out of the house.  After he ran off, the mob soon dispersed.

A few days later, the known killer sent his nephew to Pastor Tandi.  The nephew then shared with Pastor Tandi that when the mob had come into his house, his uncle (the killer) had seen Pastor Tandi’s face glowing brightly.  It scared him and so he ran out of the house and he became upset at the men who had brought him there.  The nephew told Pastor Tandi that his uncle wanted to repent and learn about Jesus.  The nephew told Pastor Tandi his uncle had sent him to invite him to his home to share the Gospel.  Pastor Tandi told the nephew that he would come, but first he needed to pray and fast for one week.

After the week of prayer and fasting, Pastor Tandi felt ready to go visit this man (the killer).  When he visited, Pastor Tandi then taught him the Gospel.  After listening, the man wanted to be saved!  Pastor Tandi led him in prayers of repentance and accepting Christ.  Then he told the man that he must dispose of all his black magic.  The man told Pastor Tandi he needed help in this.  The man led Pastor Tandi outside the town to where he kept his equipment.  A crowd began to gather and follow at a distance, mostly out of curiousity.  As they walked into the forest the man showed Pastor Tandi a bag hanging from a tree that was filled with his black magic amulets, potions, and other satanic stuff.  Pastor Tandi had the man take it down from the tree.  The man was very afraid and wanted Pastor Tandi to take care of everything.  Pastor Tandi was adamant that it needed to be the man who would dispose of these things by burning them himself.  But to show there was nothing to fear, Pastor Tandi stooped down to touch the objects.  As he was about to do this, the crowd which was standing at a distance began to yell in objection.  “No Pastor!  You will die!  Do not touch those things!  Get away from them Pastor!!!”  Pastor Tandi ignored them and touched all the objects and spread them out on the ground.  Then he had the man set them all on fire, burning them up into nothing.  So the man was free from the bondage of his black magic.

The next day some members of the crowd came to Pastor Tandi.  They told him that they are all certain that he will die for what he did the previous day.  Pastor Tandi challenged them and said if he is still alive in two weeks, they must believe that Jesus is God over all.  Pastor Tandi also told them that if he were to die that they should not believe in Jesus and that they should then close the Bible college.  Time passed and Pastor Tandi remained healthy, as he still is today.  He proved that Christ is greater than any black magic or possession of satan.  Praise God!

Yet still, these people would not believe.  Their fear of black magic and spiritism along with a lack of faith is keeping them from truly believing in God.

Please pray against the strongholds of fear and lack of faith in Indonesia.

    One more story tomorrow…

  • INDONESIA STORY 2

One evening Pastor Tandi and some of his Christian friends were called to a lady’s home.  Her son was being oppressed by a demon and she begged them to come help.  When they arrived they found ten or eleven Muslim men gathered around the oppressed man, praying for him.  The oppressed man’s stomach was bulging way out abnormally and his face was a bit distorted.  As they arrived the lady asked them to please go join the Muslim men in prayer.  Pastor Tandi told the lady (the home was not Christian, I can’t remember whether they were Muslim or simply of no belief) that he and his friends could not pray for her son unless all the Muslim men were to leave.  After a few minutes more of watching the Muslim men pray without any change happening, she had the Muslims leave.  Then Pastor Tandi and his friends gathered around the oppressed man and prayed for him, rebuking the demon.  The man was soon healed and his stomach sunk back down to normal, but his brother was suddenly attacked!  Pastor Tandi realized that because the household was not Christian, none of the family was protected.  So Pastor Tandi and his friends took the oppressed brother out of the house and drove them to one of their own homes.  There they prayed for this man and delivered him and then preached the Gospel to him.  The man accepted their instruction and left free, delivered from the oppressive demon.  But, despite these Christian men coming to their home and delivering the family from the oppression, the family quickly forgot and turned away from God, returning to their former way of life.  They likely turned back from fear of the Muslim community and the black magic that is so common in the area.

Please pray for Indonesia to be delivered from the strongholds of fear and disbelief.  Pray for the country to turn their whole hearts to Christ.

    Another story to come tomorrow…

  • INDONESIA STORY 1

One day Pastor Tandi noticed a policeman standing outside his home looking intently at the chickens in his backyard.  When Pastor Tandi greeted him, the man told him, “I see you have a red chicken.  This is very good.  I need a red chicken.  Please name your price and I will pay it.”  Pastor Tandi could tell the man did not look well.  He knew that this red chicken would be used for black magic in some sort of healing ritual.  He told the policeman that his red chicken is not for sale, but if the policeman wants true healing then to come inside with him.  The policeman agreed, and after they sat down he told Pastor Tandi his story…

The policeman had been in love with a girl.  They cared for each other a lot, but there was another man who wanted her for his own and was very jealous.  Soon this man began to cast curses on both the policeman and the woman.  The woman soon died.  The policeman was now experiencing great internal pain, likes knives and needles going through his insides, and he knew he needed healing soon or he too would likely die.  So he figured he needed a greater black magic spell to combat the curse attacking his body.

Pastor Tandi then shared with him about the true Healer.  He shared the Gospel with the policeman and told him that if he renounces his sin and accepts Christ, that Christ would become his protector and will deliver him from the curse.  The policeman gratefully accepted Christ, and just as he did this he felt the curse being lifted from his body.  He was ecstatic!!!  Pastor Tandi told the policeman to return to his home once a week so he can teach him more about God.  The policeman agreed and left the house in joy.

But after just one visit a week later, Pastor Tandi never saw the policeman again.  Despite the man receiving the Truth and experiencing such a powerful deliverance, something caused him to quit coming and return to his regular way of life.  It was likely fear, that although he was delivered once, he felt it might not always happen.  Fear and unbelief.  Please pray against these strongholds in Indonesia.

    Another story tomorrow…

  • INDONESIA STORIES

For each of the next three days I’m going to update with a story from Indonesia with each emphasizing the stronghold of fear in the country.  Later in the week I’ll give an update with pictures from my trip.  The trip was very difficult but also very blessed.  The stories I will share are from a native Indonesian pastor, Pastor Tandi, an amazing man of God that traveled with my team.  He is from the island of Papua (half being the country Papua New Guinea).  We did ministry in and around his hometown for 3 days of our trip.  The island has many different tribal people spread out through the mountains and jungles, including nudist and cannibal groups.  The island is full of black magic, witchcraft, and other satanic activity.  Muslims are also attempting to convert the island and are succeeding at an alarming rate, going from less than 10% a few years ago to 60% now.  They often use fear/force to convert.  Our pastor told us that in some places Muslim extremists will come to people and if the people are Christian and do not deny Christ and worship Allah, they will cut off one of their arms… and if they still won’t deny Christ, their other arm… and then a leg… and then the other leg.  They will do this to each person in the tribe/village until it is either completely converted or completely dead.  Makes you appreciate your religious freedom, doesn’t it?  And so Indonesians, particularly the people of the island of Papua, are overcome with religious fear, both of the black magic and of the Muslims.  This stronghold is restricting faith and suffocating Christianity in the country.  Please pray against the stronghold of fear in Indonesia.  Stories relating to this will begin tomorrow.

Matthew 12:29 – Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man?  Then he can rob his house.

    Delirious – Investigate

  • This Saturday I will be flying to Indonesia for one week with some church friends.  We will be flying into Jakarta and going throughout the island, mainly in rural places.  This trip came together very very fast, as in it was proposed to me last Friday and God had confirmed it and taken care of everything by Saturday.  In less than 24 hours He made it clear I should go.  Wild stuff!  I’ll likely grow out the mission beard… its gonna get scruffy over there.  Please pray for me and the team that the Holy Spirit will empower us so that we may empower others.  Matthew 10:8 says, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received, freely give.”  Pray we may receive that we may in turn be able to give.

Also, on October 4th I will be flying to Virginia for a visit.  I will be returning to Korea October 30th, so I’ll be in VA for a while.  Here is my schedule…

    Oct 5 – 9… family time
Oct 10 – 14… Virginia Tech, speaking at CCF Oct 13
Oct 15… speaking at my sister’s church in Covington, West Virginia
Oct 19… speaking at ICF at George Mason
Oct 20… speaking at GCF at UVA
Oct 22… open date (if your church would like me to speak, I’d be glad to… I’ll need 30 – 45 min)
Oct 26… at Virginia Tech for the Clemson game?!?!?!?  I need a ticket!  If someone gets me one, I’ll come
Oct 27… speaking at ACF at JMU
Oct 29… speaking at Central Christian Church in Springfield (my home church)

I hope to see you at one of those places.  I’ll be in nova for most of the trip.  Please you 757 and Richmond people, try and come to UVA that Friday night so I can see you.  I might stay the night at UVA, we’ll see.

    God bless you all!

  • I’ve been trying for a few weeks now and today Tae Min (1.5 years old) finally responded to my warm greeting with a happy smile!    As you may have read in my previous entry, since she came to Geon orphanage last month she has been quiet, to herself, hasn’t smiled, and usually has the same look on her face as the picture below.  I’d always notice her staring at me playing with the other kids.  I would give her a loving smile and say her name, but she usually would continue to stand at a distance.  If I would approach her, she would turn away and run to another room and would get upset if I got too close.  She would continue watching me play with the others though.  I knew she was wondering if she could trust me.  Today was the first day I saw her come outside with the other little ones to play.  Her older brother (5 years old) took her by her hand and walked her out.  I again called her name and smiled at her… and today I got a beautiful happy smile in return.  Praise God!

Little children, especially the unloved, need to be pursued.  And they will give in to the love in time.
