Being around these kids and witnessing them cuss, act in anger and selfishness, and even lie to my face… sometimes I feel like there is no hope. Sometimes I feel like there is no fruit, not even a sign of change… that no good is coming out of anything. But I’m reminded that Jesus was with his disciples for three years teaching them. And on the night of his betrayal, during the last supper, after Jesus has confessed his agony and prophesied about his betrayal, the disciples first argue about who the betrayer is and then begin to argue about which of them is the greatest (Luke 22:24). Poor Jesus, He had taught them so much but they still couldn’t get it. They were still wrapped up in themselves. But the seeds had indeed been planted by Jesus. After He rose from the dead and the Holy Spirit came, those seeds sprang to life and the disciples became like new people. During those three years of being discipled by Christ the disciples were often unaware of what they were truly witnessing and couldn’t fully comprehend what they were hearing… but when the Spirit came, everything they witnessed and heard came to light. Transform us God! Open my kids spiritual eyes and let them see and know Your love! Transform this home! Send Your Spirit in power Father God!!!
1Samuel 10:6, “The Spirit of the Lord willl come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person.”

you know, reading your post two entries down i was going to say not to expect too much (in terms of the boys really understanding and experiencing God, at this point anyway). But then i realized that that’s the kind of underestimation of God that we DON’T need. it’s okay for us to ask for and expect the seemingly impossible or extremely difficult from God. maybe we NEED to ask for and expect those things.
however, i do want to say not to be discouraged either. i do think it’s hard for the children, especially the younger ones, to truly understand what you are doing and why you are doing it. but i believe that one day they will, and they will have to stop and consider who this God character is, that he would influence your life so much to make you do what you are doing. yes, we can and should expect great things from God, great transformations. but don’t feel too burdened. I’m positive that God is using you and working through you. But there has to be something between God and the children. take care, John-Michael.
ooh well said.
hey there…. for we are called to do his works and that’s what you are doing~ even the good times and the bad, God has promised to us that ….. ” in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28) you are planting seeds now and there will be harvest in upcoming years! let’s hold to God’s promise and keep going ~ Fighting! – (this is sammie btw)
Hey JM. Bo and I wanted to say hey! Your post reminded me of when I was in 9th grade my Youth Pastor wanted to introduce worship to youth group. I really didn’t like the songs so I hid the overhead transparencies under a rug in the youth room. That ended worship in youth group. I haven’t seen my Youth Pastor since 9th grade, but I think he would be pretty surprised to know that now I love to worship at on occasion lead worship. Completely different. Blessings God is using you.
hey JM! i know what you mean… i felt that way a lot of the times when the kids would fight with one another and be violent in general and many times we felt useless and ineffective. but the story that elana shared last sunday really showed me that these seeds are being planted in these children and and it was so encouraging. thank you Lord!
