Walls Breaking Down
We received two new kids last week, Dong Yoon (9 year old boy) and Min Seung (4 year old girl). They are brother and sister. They were like most new kids in being cautious/curious with me during their first days here. I usually give new kids some time to get situated and watch me for a bit before approaching them. For most new kids I’m the first foreigner to ever approach them, so it can be intimidating. Min Seung has been scared of me and really cautious, but I knew in time she would come around. That happened tonight. Dinner tonight was a bit rough, so I was slow to finish it. Most of the kids were done and had left while I was still eating, but a little 5 year old girl Soo Rim was still in the cafeteria playing with Min Seung. Soo Rim loves for me to chase her and pick her up. As I was eating and sitting on the floor she began running to and fro behind me, obviously wanting me to try and catch her as she would go by. I continued to sit facing my food and eating using my left hand, but at times I would reach back with my right arm and try and catch her as she would go by. She would laugh with glee, especially when I would catch her for a moment and then let her go. Min Seung watched cautiously at a distance. Soon a smile began to form on her lips. Then she began to laugh. And soon she was running behind me too. After I finished my meal Soo Rim wanted me to pick her up so I grabbed her with one arm around her waist and picked her up. Min Seung watched and softly said, “Me too.” So I reached down and picked her up with my other arm and walked around holding them a little. I knew then the walls were broken and trust was developing. Praise God!
On another note, these two verses have been ministering to me lately…
Isaiah 30:15a – “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.”
Isaiah 32:17 – The fruit of righteousness is peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.”
You can see the theme in those two verses. My trust is in my God and Him alone, so I may rest and be secure in Him. God bless you!
