  • In my apartment I have a prayer tree that at the beginning of the year I stick my English class students' prayer requests to in the shape of prayer leaves.  We recently took down the requests from last year and wrote the answered prayers on fruit shaped cut outs.  Then I had the kids make new prayer leaves for 2008.  Here are the kids' prayer requests for this year... I encourage you to pray the requests as you read them.  Stuff written in these (parenthesis) are added notes by the kids, stuff written in these [brackets] are added notes by me.  God bless!

    Se Bin (12 years old, F) – To be healthier.  To get better grades this year.  For Hae Hyun [our 8 year old girl with liver cancer] to have good health.  For me to be patient in everything. 

    Byung Chul (12 years old, M) – Good health.  To adjust well into middle school.  To discover God, hear His voice, and be faithful

    Yong Shin (12 years old, M) – For this year to be trouble-free.  To make good friends at middle school and be put in a good class.  To do well on my tests and get good grades.

    Sun Mi (11 years old, F) – For my grades to improve.  For me to make good friends in 2008.  For me to grow taller (10cm please).

    Hae Ji (11 years old, F) – For the Geon family to be healthy and be filled with blessings.  To grow in height to 160cm.  To be wise with my studies and to study well.  For my family’s wellbeing, in particular for my father’s arm to heal so that he can start working again.  For Hae Hyun to get well and be healthy.  For me to believe in God more!

    Sun Ran (13 years old, F) – To study well.  For Hae Hyun to recover quickly.  To make good friends in my middle school class.  To feel more joy.

    Soo Jin (12 years old, F) – To protect the Geon family, my relatives, and me and for us all to have good health, for me to achieve the grades I want, for me to grow until I am 163cm, for world peace, for Dal Woo to study hard and be loved, for me to have Solomon’s wisdom, in 2008 for me to revere God more and for my prayers to be answered, for me to be able to accomplish everything I do

    Hyun Hee (13 years old, F) - For my brother to have good health, for me to study well in 2008 (better than 2007), to make good friends at school, for more joy in my life, for Hae Hyun to heal quickly

     

    Jin Seul (14 years old, F) – For the Geon family to be healthy in 2008, for Hae Hyun to completely recover, for me to study well and get good grades and be able to go to a good high school, to grow taller, for my grandfather and relatives to be healthy, for 2008 to be filled with good things

     

    Ah Reum (14 years old, F) – For Sung Hyun [her younger brother who now attends a soccer academy] to study well at his new school and play soccer with a joyful heart.  For me to make good friends in my new class at school.  To get better grades this year.  To do my best in practicing the piano and learning new songs so that my dream may come true.  For the Geon family to be filled with blessings this year. 

    Jong Hyun (16 years old, M) – To grow taller (over 180cm).  For the Geon soccer team to win.  To study better and get good grades at school (over 85).  For the health of Geon family.  To enjoy my second year of high school.  To become a more positive person.

    Soo Min (17 years old, M) – To study hard during my last year of high school and make it into a good university.  To get certifications at my computer class (goal: 10 certifications), to learn the guitar well so that I can praise God with it, to grow taller (goal: 178cm).  To be healthy for life.  To be a hard worker at everything.  For my girlfriend and I to love each other all our life.

    Eun Song (18 years old, F) – For my ability to concentrate to increase so I can better focus on my studies, to exceed my expectations on my university entrance exam and get into a good university, to lose weight, for my family to be healthy, for me to have good fortune, for me to discover my purpose/vision for my life

    Yun Hwa (17 years old, F) For my grandmother to have good health, for me to think in a more affirming/positive way, to study well and get into a good university, for the Geon family to have good health, for me to always be able to smile, for me to gain weight [she has had health problems]

    In Chul (17 years old, M) – To grow a lot.  To be able to attend a good university.  To live a long life.  To have a nice home with my mom [he will live with her after he graduates high school and leaves our home].  To get a girlfriend.  To focus better on my studies and do well.

    Kot Nim (17 years old, F) – To study hard and do well on my university entrance exam.  To study English well and become as good as JM.  For Hae Hyun to fully heal.  To study the Bible well and pay attention during church service.  To have great faith in God.  For the well-being of my father, mother, orphanage friends and JM.  To enjoy my last year of high school.  To not complain or curse, but to have patience when I am angry.

    do you remember my dull method of teaching at GEM? lol.

  • cute. I think it's funny that alot of them had height requirements as part of their goals haha. I think it says alot of about Korean culture these days. Will keep you and your kids in prayer, JM. it was good seeing you in Seoul (even though the Hokies lost :( )
