  • Jerusalem Ministry Soccer Camp 2009

This year Jerusalem Ministry held our 2nd summer 3-day soccer camp for boys from different children’s home around Seoul.  In total, we had about 45 boys come out, including a small group of boys from a local community welfare center.  Our volunteers were from five different churches around Seoul and did a stellar job motivating, encouraging, and teaching the kids.  As expected with most events for kids from children homes, the first day was the toughest and some of the boys had poor attitudes or lacked confidence… but as the camp progressed the frowns and complaining quickly turned to big smiles and encouragement.  Enjoy the pictures… I have a ton of them but could only choose “a few.”  I will add pictures from our pool time later and hopefully also add video footage.  The camp was a blast!  I am headed off to Myanmar this Saturday for missions and will return August 2.  Please keep me in your prayers.  Enjoy the pics!

  • Affirmation and Acceptance…

Last night I was visiting for a bit in one of the girls rooms and at one point the younger elementary girls pulled me into one of the side rooms wanting to play.  One of the girls wanted to show me some dance moves she learned from VBS at church and she laughed as she performed.  Now, I’m about to go to Myanmar for missions (leaving July 25) and I’ve had to learn a worship dance to go to a song called “If My People Pray,” so I told the girls that I know some dance moves too.  They all got excited and sat beside the wall to watch me perform.  I did the worship dance for them (no music) and they smiled and laughed throughout it.  Then they got up and wanted to perform more for me.  At one point they even had me go outside the room for a little bit so they could practice before performing for me.  Happy, cute girls.  I clapped and smiled and encouraged as they did their little dances.  They were each embarrassed at times, but laughed a lot.  I noticed one girl though was a little more insecure, despite my applause.  I had to leave after their little performance, but I felt led to go back to the room for a moment and simply say, “Tonight was fun.”  As I said that, I noticed a smile form on the insecure girl’s face.  Funny how far simple words of affirmation and acceptance can go.

I recently watched a stellar sermon by Larry Stockstill (see link below) about fathers where he talked a lot about this.  I really encourage you guys to watch it… it gets good at the 13:30 mark (the first 13:30 are mainly intros/stories/jokes, you can skip forward by clicking the button next to the play button on the bottom left and selecting the second mini video screen)… http://video.oru.edu/chapel/20090326_Rev%20Larry%20Stockstill%20-%20Spring%20Revival%2010am.php.

  • Love…

It can’t be earned.  Its not something that changes or depends on circumstances or actions.  It is constant.  And it is deep.

The good stuff starts at the 1:15 mark…

    God bless!
